Among the objectives of the Surah

The command to establish the Caliphate on Earth by implementing Islam and submitting to God, and a warning against the state of the Children of Israel.

Interpretation

Surah Al-Baqarah is named as such because the story of the cow of the Children of Israel is mentioned within it, and it contains an indication of the obligation to hasten to implement God’s law and not to delay it as the Jews did.

( Alif Lam Mim ) (1)

Alif Lam Mim. These are letters with which some chapters of the Qur’an begin. They are alphabetic letters that have no meaning in themselves if they come alone like this (A, B, T, etc.), but they have wisdom and significance; as there is nothing in the Qur’an that does not have wisdom, and one of their most important wisdoms is: indicating the challenge with the Qur’an which is made up of the same letters that they know and speak with; therefore, a mention of the Holy Qur’an often comes after them, as in this chapter.

( That is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah ) (2)

That is the Great Qur’an about which there is no doubt, neither in terms of its revelation nor in terms of its wording and meaning. It is the word of Allah, guiding those conscious of Allah to the path that leads to Him.

( Those who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them ) (3)

( And those who believe in what has been revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what was revealed before you, and of the Hereafter they are certain ) (4)

Those who believe in the unseen, which is everything that cannot be perceived by the senses and is hidden from us, which God has informed us about or which His Messenger has informed us about, such as the Last Day. They are those who establish prayer by performing it according to what God has prescribed of its conditions, pillars, obligations, and recommended acts. They are those who spend from what God has provided them, by giving the obligatory amount such as Zakat, or the non-obligatory amount such as voluntary charity, hoping for God’s reward. They are those who believe in the revelation that God sent down to you – O Prophet – and that He sent down to all the prophets, peace be upon them, before you, without distinction. They are those who firmly believe in the Hereafter and what it contains of reward and punishment.

( Those of you are guided by their Lord, and those of you are the successful ones ) (5)

Those who possess these qualities are on the path of guidance, and they are the winners in this world and the Hereafter, attaining what they hope for and being saved from what they fear.

Absolute confidence in the absence of doubt is proof that it is from God, for no creature can claim such a thing in its speech.

Only those who fear God and glorify Him will benefit from the great guidance in the Holy Quran.

One of the greatest levels of faith is belief in the unseen, for it includes submission to God in all that He alone knows of the unseen, and to His Messenger in what he, Glory be to Him, has informed us of.

God often pairs prayer and charity, for prayer is sincerity to the One worshipped, and charity is kindness to His servants, and both are the keys to happiness and salvation.

Belief in God and righteous deeds bring guidance and success in this world, and triumph and salvation in the Hereafter.
